Global Chinese Classes

Global Chinese program currently offers Chinese I, II, III, IV, and Business Chinese; we also offer coaching for AP Chinese, SAT Chinese, YCT Chinese and HSK Chinese, with enrollment varying between 1 and 6 students per level. The majority of classes are private tutoring. For these private classes, students can choose between face-to-face classes and online classes. For online classes, teachers and students will use either "skype", "wechat", or "haiku" as a platform to teach and learn. Advanced Placement Chinese Language and Culture (commonly known as AP Chinese Language and Culture or AP Chinese) is a course offered by the College Board as a part of the Advanced Placement Program[1]. Designed to be comparable to a fourth semester or equivalent college/university courses in Mandarin Chinese[2], these college courses deepen the students’ immersion into the language and culture of the Chinese-speaking world. Coursework within this course reflects the proficiencies exhibited throughout the Intermediate range as described in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines.





SAT Subject Test in Chinese with Listening (Formerly SAT Ⅱ Chinese) are designed to measure your knowledge and skills in particular subject areas, as well as your ability to apply that knowledge. Students take the SATⅡChinese test to demonstrate to colleges their mastery of specific subjects like English, history, mathematics, science, and other language. The tests are independent of any particular textbook or method of instruction.

The SAT Ⅱ Chinese with listening subject test is formerly known as SAT Ⅱ Chinese test, which evaluates Chinese learners' reading ability and ability to understand spoken Chinese. The test paper includes 85 questions which are shown in four types: pinyin, phonetic symbols, simplified and traditional Chinese characters. All questions are relevant to the daily life usage.





The new YCT is an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency. It assesses young foreign students' abilities to use Chinese in their daily and academic lives. The new YCT consists of a writing test and a speaking test, which are independent of each other. The writing test is divided into four levels, namely, the YCT (level I), YCT (level II), YCT (level III), and YCT (level IV). The speaking test is divided into the YCT (Beginner Level) and YCT (Intermediate Level).

The new HSK is an international standardized exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency. It assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. HSK consists of six levels, namely the HSK (level I), HSK (level II), HSK (level III), HSK (level IV), HSK (level V), and HSK (level VI).

Business Chinese courses are designed for business people or future business people who intend to develop their ability to use the Chinese language when conducting business in China. Our business Chinese courses are divided into 4 different levels, ranging from the beginner levels to the advanced levels, with a wide range of useful topics and learning materials specifically related to business activities.

Mandarin Chinese I:  This is a beginning course in Mandarin Chinese, designed for students who have little or no prior exposure to Chinese language. This course adopts different pedagogical approaches to help students acquire basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin Chinese, as well as additional insight into Chinese culture and society. Both Pinyin phonetic system and simplified Chinese characters are emphasized. Students will learn approximately 350 vocabulary items through essential real-life topics such as greetings, dates and times, family, hobbies, school life, shopping, transportation, and so on. Students will master basic pronunciation of the initials, finals and tones of individual characters with the help of Pinyin, understand simple sentences and classroom expressions related to personal and daily activities, produce simple sentence structures, recognize and use basic strokes and rules of stroke-order of Chinese characters in writing. Students will begin to develop confidence and interest in learning the Chinese language, and increase cultural understanding and appreciation through various activities.


Mandarin Chinese II:  This course will build upon the material learned in Chinese I and will introduce 350 more vocabulary items. It will continue to emphasize the basic training in the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing for communication in real-life situations, increased emphasis will be given to more complicated grammar learning, vocabulary-building and character recognition skills, and communicative skills. Students will be introduced basic writing skills with daily life topics. They will learn useful contextual expressions and skills, like how to talk about the weather, how to ask directions, how to see a doctor in China, etc. Cultural aspects will also be introduced and discussed in class to increase students’ cross-cultural sensitivity. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to build stronger communicative skills as they discuss every day topic, and they should be able to solidify their grammar and be ready for more advance Chinese course.


Mandarin Chinese III: This course is designed for students who have already completed level 2 Mandarin Chinese, or who can demonstrate that they have acquired knowledge of the language to the required level. This course build upon the material learned in Chinese I and Chinese II. Students will continue to expand their vocabulary and learn more complicated sentence patterns. They will learn useful contextual expressions and skills appropriate to college-age or high school students, like campus and family life, social issues, and Chinese cultural traditions. Students in this course can communicate orally and in writing on the issues encountered during the course, make use of and understand more sophisticated structures and vocabulary, including some commonly used colloquialisms, and enhance significantly their listening and speaking skills. Culture is sprinkled throughout the course in an attempt to help students focus on the Chinese speaking world and their culture, people, and geographical locations.


Mandarin Chinese IV: This course, conducted mainly in target language, offer a multifaceted curriculum with an advance level of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chinese. This course focuses on important linguistic structures to build and refine learners’ understanding of Chinese syntax.  Situational conversational skills and reading confidence and depth will be emphasized. This course also gradually introduces more formal speech and written-style language. Chinese I, II, III, and IV form a sequence. Students taking this course will typically have taken Chinese III. Others will need to be evaluated to make sure that Chinese IV is the appropriate level for them. In this course, students will read more difficult Chinese passages with topic such as health, environment protection, finance and investment, etc.  Upon completion of this course, students should be able to speaking fluently in Chinese on basic conversational topics, they should be able to read texts composed of characters introduced in the textbook and they should be able to write long compositions using characters they learned.
